CP Foods handed over 29th school lunch project to help schools nationwide tackles malnutrition

Sakon Nakhon, December 17, 2018 -- Charoen Pokphand Foods and Charoen Pokphand for Rural Lives' Development Foundation jointly handed over “Raising Layer for Student's Lunch” Project to 50 schools nationwide, helping the children in remote areas to access high quality protein source.

 

The project aims at improving child nutrition and health in coherence with the company’s sustainability direction to promote food security. It has reached out to 155,000 students across Thailand so far.

 

This year’s handover ceremony was held at Baan Nong Hoi School in Sakon Nakhon province. The company will provide facilities and supports to 50 selected schools at the value of 15 million baht. Besides providing useful food resources, CP Foods is hoping that this project, which will be fully completed in May 2019, will give students who involved in this project a joyful and exciting start of a new school year.

 

Sakon Nakhon Governor Mr. Witthaya Chanchalong said nutritious food is crucial element for body and intellectual development. Therefore, CP Foods’ school lunch project will be an important part of student’s lives. He noted that this ceremony is the beginning of a sustainable development and food security.

 

Mr. Sooksunt Jiumjaiswanglerg, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) - Agro Industrial Business and Co-President of CP Foods, said “Raising Layer for Student's Lunch” Project has been running for 29 years. it has effectively reduced malnutrition among students. The program has supported over 155,000 students over the years.

 

During the first year of the project, the company will provide budget for building facilities, necessary farming equipment, animal feed, chickens and consultant from the experts. Meanwhile the schools will be responsible for managing farms with a goal to produce sustainable protein for students.

 

“The Company has been working with social responsibility under the strategic direction called “3 pillars: Food Security, Self-Sufficiency Society, and Balance of Nature”. This project is a part of food security’ pillars to promote food accessibility and enhance quality and safety of the foods,” he said.

 

Mr. Sooksunt added that the students will have an opportunity to learn how to run a high standard food production from the company. With experience and skills from this project, they will be able to pursue a career in a field of agriculture. In addition, oversupplied eggs can be sold to the community for extra income.

 

Since 1989, the company has been running the project to improve nutritional status among the youth in remote areas in accordance to HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn’s royal initiative. By May 2019, it will be covered 768 schools in total, including 275 schools in the Northeast, 169 schools in Central and East region, 184 schools in the north and 90 schools in the south.
