CPF Joins Hands with TGO in Protecting the Earth, Reducing Greenhouse-Gas Emissions on a Sustainable Basis

Charoen Pokphand Foods (CPF) has seen 47 of its farms and factories receive certificates from the Low Emission Support Scheme (LESS) and its chicken, day-old chick, live bird and chicken meat from integrated chicken businesses in Min Buri, Saraburi and Nakhon Ratchasima awarded carbon-footprint-reduction labels at the “100 Hearts for Easing Global Warming” 2016 event at the Ballroom Hall, Zone A, the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center, Ratchadapisek Road, Bangkok. Both the certifications and labels have reaffirmed CPF status as an exemplary green organization.

Mr. Wuthichai Sithipreedanant, Senior Vice President for Corporate Social Responsibility and Sustainable Development of CPF, says Thailand aims to lower greenhouse-gas emissions by 20 per cent across all sectors by 2010. On its part, CPF is now on its path of sustainability. Embracing its three pillars of “Food Security, Self-Sufficient Society, and the Balance of Nature”, CPF has demonstrated social responsibility and pursued sustainable development. It has conducted various activities for the sake of environmental quality and balanced ecology system. Not only that CPF has sought to minimize adverse environmental impacts, but it has also actively protected biodiversity.

“CPF has worked with the Thailand Greenhouse Gas Management Organization (Public Organization) or TGO in supporting the LESS on the continued basis. This year, 44 facilities of CPF have won the certification from the ecological protection scheme. Together, these facilities can trap about 12,130 tons of carbon dioxide equivalents. For example, the Khao Mai Kaeo Farm can capture up to 3,847 tons of carbon dioxide equivalents – the biggest amount among the 44 facilities. The aquatic-animal feed plant in Saraburi, meanwhile, can trap 2,653 tons of carbon dioxide equivalents thanks to its installation of high-performance crusher,” Mr. Wuthichai says.

In addition, day-old chick, live bird and chicken meat from CPF integrated chicken businesses in Min Buri, Saraburi and Nakhon Ratchasima are awarded carbon-footprint-reduction labels because they can lower greenhouse-gas emissions in line with TGO standards. The average carbon footprint of CPF chicken is now about 50 per cent lower than that of general chicken in Thai industry. The carbon-footprint-reduction label reflects CPF environmental responsibility and constant product development for the sake of sustainability for all. Ms. Kularb Kimsri, a CPF vice president, has also been the first Thai to join the Carbon Neutral Man project and receive its certification./
