Bangkok Produce Merchandising Public Company Limited announced the policy on corn purchase which can be confirmed on its legitimate and eco-friendly source. The Company is also continuing to setup the tracebility system as the tool for the business partners to clearly identify the corn growing area and exact grower. The Company is also committed to the development of corn business partners and growers to gain the sustainable growth together.

Mr. Paisarn Kruawongvanich, Executive Vice President, Bangkok Produce Merchandising PLC., said that as the purchaser of corn for Charoen Pokphand Foods Public Company Limited or CPF’s feedstuff plants, the Company has setup the tracebility system for business partners to help them on the corn tracebility used as the raw material for feedstuff production with the hope to motivate the stakeholders and players in the production supply cycle from the upstream to commit to the responsible practice in line with the CPF’s sustainable sourcing policy. The Company is now providing training courses and information for 400 business partners and through them, asking for the cooperation from farmers to join the corn tracebility system so that the tracing of corn source can be accurately done. 

‘The corn tracebility system is the tool to help our business partners to pursue the sustainable sourcing policy that can identify all the corn growing areas and growers- all can be traceable. It will help to encourage the business partners to support the policy for the corn growers to grow the corn in the legitimate area and engage on the social and environment responsibility practice,’ said Mr. Paisarn.

Mr. Paisarn further said the corn tracebility system was developed from the tracebility system based on the Mass Balance Tracebility that can clearly identify the source of corns both the grower and growing area. It is helping all the business partners to make the relevant records for the effective input in the corn tracebility system. The system can also be the vital link for the end user of the raw material and the farmer on their joint effort to concretely boost the production efficiency and cost reduction. 

‘In developing the corn tracebility system the Company had organized the hearing process to gain information from all the stake holders i.e. business partners, farmers, academicians, government sector, civil society. The Company had organized workshops during early August in order to help all the 400 business partners gaining awareness and understanding of this issue. The tracing on Company’s corn tracebility system may be quite complicate but the Company has put all the efforts to set the system to monitor the source of raw materials to enable the corn business partners and growers to join hands in  the sustainable growth path and jointly providing solution to the society and environmental problem,’ Paisarn said.

The Company has also given the priority to the building of partnership on the food production supply cycle both the business partner and farmer based on the long-term sustainable growth policy. Regarding to the farmers, the Company had joined Agricultural Land Reform Office (ALRO) in launching the “Kasetakorn Puen Ton Khao Pode Yang Yuen’ project to develop the quality of life of corn growers by sending Company‘s experts to train the farmers on cost cutting and product value enhancement in order to help farmers gain more income and reduce the environmental impact on the long-run.  This year, the Company has organized training programs for farmers in 8 pilot provinces including Phrae, Nan, Uttaradit, Tak, Phetchabun and Nakhon Ratchasima covering the area of 45,000 rais. The Company had set the 5 years (2015-2019) target to enroll 20,000 corn growers in the program covering 225,000 rais of corn growing area.

Furthermore, the Company is continuing to gain understanding from corn business partners and growers throughout the country to jointly follow the Sustainable Sourcing Policy and implement the tracebility system for the benefit of quality corn sourcing and higher price and safeguard for the sourcing of corn from legitimate growing area. In participating with the Company sustainable guidelines and jointly contributing to the social and environment goodness, business partners and growers would be both benefited from the sustainable growth.
