CP Foods Pledges to Protect Biodiversity by Planting 5 million Trees across Its Operation Sites Worldwide

Charoen Pokphand Foods Public Company Limited (CP Foods) joins forces with its operations in Thailand and overseas, striving to protect biodiversity through the reforestation of 5 million trees and the restoration of watersheds and mangrove forests. This effort contributes to an annual absorption of 39,434 tons of carbon dioxide, supporting food security and aligning with the SDGs and the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework. Kobboon Srichai, Head of Corporate Affairs & Investor Relations at CP Foods, stated that the company is committed to conserving and protecting terrestrial and mangrove forests, as well as expanding green spaces in the workplace to foster biodiversity and ensure food security. Across Thailand and in eight countries where CP Foods operates—namely, Turkey, Russia, Vietnam, the Philippines, India, Malaysia, Laos, and Cambodia—the company has successfully cultivated a total of 5.4 million trees. "CP Foods has a strategic framework for forest conservation and Restoration, aligned with the SDGs and the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework. The company achieves this through conducting numerous tree and forest plantation projects, aiming to bolster sustainable food security that relies on natural resources for food production,"

said Kobboon. In Thailand, CP Foods has planted and reforested more than 2.8 million trees through the implementation of CPF Rak Ni-Ves, Pasak Watershed, and Khao Phraya Doen Thong Projects. These projects, conducted in collaboration with the Royal Forest Department and local communities, aim to conserve and restore 7,000 rai of watershed forest (equivalent to planting 1.3 million trees) and expand the mangrove forest by approximately 2,400 rai (with over 1.2 million trees planted) in strategic provinces such as Samut Sakhon, Rayong, Chumphon, Songkhla, and Phang Nga. Furthermore, CP Foods has planted 250,000 trees in its operational sites across Thailand. These three initiatives have a positive impact on the economy, society, and environment.

They also contribute to transforming the areas into eco-tourism destinations and learning centers for reforestation. As a leading integrated agro-industrial and food business, CP Foods has announced its commitment to biodiversity conservation and zero deforestation by 2030. This commitment extends to its business partners who supply main agricultural raw materials, including corn, fishmeal, palm oil, soybean, and cassava. The company also promotes awareness among its employees regarding the value of biodiversity and encourages community engagement in forest protection, fostering sustainable coexistence between communities and forests.
