CP Foods’ Labour Voice Hotline by LPN extended for the 4th year

Charoen Pokphand Foods Public Company Limited (CP Foods) and, the Labour Protection Network Foundation, a human rights NGO, have announced the extension of “Labour Voice Hotline by LPN” for the 4th consecutive year to promote human rights practice and to reassure that all voices in the company’s supply chain are being heard.

The Labour Voice Hotline by LPN aims at allowing CP Foods’ workers, including migrant groups, to voice their concerns through a third party. The hotline provides consulting services in Thai, English, Burmese and Cambodian to help migrant workers feel more comfortable without language barrier.

CP Foods’ Chief People Officer, Pimonrat Reephattanavijitkul, said that the company has placed great importance to human rights. Therefore, it has joined hands with government agencies and multiple civil society sectors to ensure that companies and partners across supply chain have good labor practices in accordance with internationally-recognized standard.

She added that the project has helped CP Foods to understand its worker better and enable to response to their suggestions in timely manner.

Aside hearing worker’s concern, CP Foods and LPN provide “Worker Training” to raise awareness on basic human rights, labor law, occupational health and good governance. This will ultimately enhance the quality of life and well-being of people who work for the company. The training enables workers to know their rights, enabling them to prevent human rights violations within the organization

“Partnering with the LPN Foundation, an expert on foreign workers’ rights, will reinforcing CP Foods’ commitment on promoting human rights and improving the quality of life of workers, especially foreign workers, in the supply chain. With a third-party managed complaints tool, the company can be assured that all voices are being heard without prejudice or discrimination. This is also in line with the company’s commitment on United Nations Sustainable Development Goals,” said Ms. Pimonrat.

In response to the outbreak of COVID-19, CP Foods and LPN, has changed a training format to online.  The joint project has set a plan to work with labor recruitment agents from neighboring countries to help them improve their recruitment practice to be on par with international standard.

Sompong Srakaew, director of LPN, said the cooperation with CP Foods contribute better well-being to foreign workers who work with the company. During the epidemic, Labor Voices Hotline by LPN has shared its knowledge on disease prevention with to the migrants.

Last year, LPN Foundation organized a Focus Group activity with migrant workers at the dormitory to create understanding and cooperate with measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in the operation and residences.

In addition, the foundation has received support for ready-to-eat food products and fresh chicken eggs from CP Foods to distribute to foreign workers in various areas to help alleviate the impact of the Covid-19 outbreak.
