23 February 2016 – The Feed Ingredients Trading Business Group, subsidiary of Charoen Pokphand Group (CPG), has launched the “Development of a Sustainable Supply of Soybean Meal System Project” in collaboration with AG Processing Inc, the biggest soybean processing cooperative in the world from U.S., to reinforce sustainable and traceable sourcing policy throughout his supply chain and to promote environmentally and socially responsibility as the leading company.
Mr. Somchai Kungsamutr, Chief Executive Officer of the Feed Ingredients Trading Business Group, said that “Development of a Sustainable Supply of Soybean Meal System Project” is under the concept of “Partnership for Mutual Growth” and aims to reiterate long-term commitment to sustainable sourcing throughout upstream supply chain after we communicated the Sustainable the Sourcing Policy and Supplier Guiding Principle” to our core suppliers of main raw materials such as fishmeal and maize, mostly local suppliers, last year.
The project development period is for 3 years with 7 goals to develop cooperation in the following areas: 1. To develop a mutually acceptable process whereby soybean meal can be traced back throughout the supply chain, from processing plants back to the soybean growing areas 2. To develop a mutually acceptable international standard measures and regulatory guidelines on labor and human right and compliant with the laws of the country where both parties conduct their business 3. To develop a mutually acceptable system to issue document certifying that the products sold to CP originated from no deforestation growing areas 4. To develop a mutually acceptable continuous plan to encourage farmers to increase productivity, reduce costs and implement environmentally responsible cultivation practices, and encourage farmers to comply with all relevant international standards 5. To dedicate to foster global environmental, health and safety (EHS) and sustainability excellence through the sharing of tools and information to help business achieve environmental sustainability excellence 6. To identify/evaluate and assess emerging issues vital to achieving a sustainable world while maintaining business growth and 7. To promote the adoption of environmental sustainability.
Mr. Somchai has also said that “This collaboration with our business partner will strengthen us both in business and in sourcing of traceable and sustainable raw material which will be able to reolve labor, deforestation, and environment issues, significant sustainability issues for the world.
Mr. Somchai continually said that we realize that supply chain traceability system is an effective tool to minimize social and environmental negative impacts and believe that empowering farmers to sustainable agriculture practice is our important mission.
In January 2016, CPG announced “Charoen Pokphand Group Sustainability Principles”, expanding on core philosophy “3 Benefits towards Sustainability” to create benefits to each and every countries in which CP have businesses, to the people in that countries and to our Group, in that orders.
