At Ban Ran Tat Pom School in Tha Sae District, Chumphon Province, mornings begin not just with greetings to teachers but with excited footsteps toward the henhouse—thanks to CP Foods and the Charoen Pokphand for Rural Lives’ Development Foundation. Through the “Raising Layer for Student’s Lunch” project, CP Foods is transforming schoolyards into hands-on learning spaces, where fresh eggs become powerful tools for teaching responsibility, teamwork, and self-reliance.
Sixth-grader Pangpond (Kittiphat Thinwongkler) and his peers gather each morning to feed 150 laying hens, check the water supply, and maintain airflow in the coop. What started as a new school activity has grown into a daily mission—teaching students the foundations of animal care and sustainable food production.
Before joining the project in 2022, the school relied on market purchases for eggs and meat to feed over 550 students. That changed when CP Foods and the Foundation provided a brand-new henhouse, young hens, and one full cycle of poultry feed.
Now, the school collects over 120 fresh eggs per day—used to prepare nutritious meals like kai palo (five-spice egg stew). Surplus eggs are sold at low prices to parents, and the revenue—already over 150,000 baht—is reinvested to support future flocks.
Beyond nutrition, students learn practical skills like budgeting, recordkeeping, and environmental care, even turning chicken manure into fertilizer for their school’s pesticide-free vegetable plots. With 988 schools and more than 223,000 students already benefiting, CP Foods plans to expand the project to 1,018 schools nationwide by 2025—helping raise the next generation, one egg at a time.
